30's & 40's Children Costumes

Many Children of the 30’s and 40’s were swept away from their families during WW2 and suddenly became evacuees leaving them to reside in the countryside with relatives, where they spent their days skipping, hopscotching, and playing football!

The main attire for children of these decades was much different to the styles of today. Girls tended to wear smart tailored cotton dresses that were in a floral design or solid colour. Whereas boys wore corduroy suits and shirts often in pinstripes or solid colours. They wore long or short trousers with braces. Wool suits were kept for Sundays and overalls were for playtime!
