Roald Dahl is a famous British novelist, well-known for his imaginative, humorous children’s stories. ‘James and the Giant Peach’ and ‘Charlie in the Chocolate Factory’ were first published in the UK in 1967 and grew to achieve phenomenal success worldwide. These books, among many others such as ‘Matilda’ and ‘The Witches’ eventually hit the big screen and are still popular films today. Tim Burton also recreated a modern ‘Charlie in the Chocolate Factory’ capturing Dahl’s dark humour and creating a real life depiction of the story.
His children’s books are now part of many school’s libraries because of his ability to write stories that keep children interested and excited about reading. As a result Roald Dahl Day has become a worldwide celebration of his stories and creativity. This day is largely supported by school’s who ask children to dress up as a character from their favourite Roald Dahl book. The official day for Roald Dahl Day is September 13th; this is because it is his birthday.
